Excisional Buttock Lift (Buttock Reshaping):
Correcting Sagging After Weight Loss
Significant weight loss is an incredible achievement, but it often leaves behind excess, loose skin on the buttocks that droops, flattens the natural contour, and makes clothing fit poorly. This common consequence is difficult to correct through diet and exercise alone.
At The Plastics Atelier in Omaha, we specialize in the Excisional Buttock Lift. This surgical procedure focuses on removing the excess skin and fat, and tightening the underlying tissue to create a firmer, more lifted, and shapelier posterior contour.
Who is an Ideal Candidate?
An Excisional Buttock Lift is specifically designed for patients who have substantial sagging skin on the buttocks, usually following a weight loss of 50+ pounds.
Unlike a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which focuses on adding volume (via fat transfer), the Excisional Buttock Lift focuses on removing excess skin and lifting the tissue to:
Correct Ptosis (Sagging): Elevate the dropped skin and tissue of the buttocks.
Improve Contour: Achieve a more youthful, rounded, and projected shape.
Enhance Comfort: Eliminate skin chafing and irritation caused by hanging skin folds.
The Surgical Technique
The Excisional Buttock Lift is performed by placing an incision along the upper portion of the buttocks, carefully hidden along the top edge of the posterior hip line.
Incision Placement: A horizontal incision is made across the top of the buttocks, typically concealed by the small of the back and waistline (similar to a lower back incision in a body lift).
Skin Excision: An ellipse or band of excess skin and underlying fat is measured and surgically removed.
Lifting and Tightening: The remaining buttock tissue is then pulled upward (superiorly) to elevate the entire buttock mound.
Suspension: The tissue is securely anchored to the firm, deep tissue structures of the lower back. This deep suspension provides long-lasting lift and helps flatten the lower back area.
Closing: The incision is meticulously closed, leaving a tighter, smoother contour.
Recovery and Results
The results of an Excisional Buttock Lift are transformative, providing immediate correction of sagging.
Downtime: Because the incision is extensive and located in an area that bears weight, recovery requires careful management. Patients typically need around 1-2 weeks of recovery before returning to light activities.
Sitting: You will receive specific instructions regarding sleeping and sitting positions to prevent tension on the incision lines during the initial healing phase.
Scarring: The final scar runs horizontally across the upper buttock/lower back. While permanent, it is designed to be easily concealed by underwear or swimwear.
