Thigh Lift (Thighplasty): Toning and Reshaping the Legs
Loose, sagging skin on the thighs is a common challenge, especially following significant weight loss or as a result of the natural aging process. This excess skin can cause chafing, limit clothing options, and detract from an otherwise fit physique.
At The Plastics Atelier in Omaha, we offer Thigh Lift (Thighplasty) surgery, a body contouring procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat, smooth the skin, and create a more toned, defined contour in the upper and inner thighs.
Who is the Ideal Candidate?
A Thigh Lift is the definitive solution for patients who have:
Excess Skin Laxity: Significant drooping or hanging skin on the thighs that does not respond to exercise.
Chafing and Irritation: Chronic skin irritation or hygiene concerns caused by skin rubbing together (chafing).
Disproportionate Thighs: Thighs that look heavy or undefined due to loose skin and fat.
It is important for patients considering a thigh lift to be at or near their goal weight, as future weight fluctuations can compromise the results.
The Specialized Techniques
Thigh lift surgery is highly individualized, and Dr. Hall will determine the precise technique needed to address your specific areas of concern, ensuring the most discreet incision placement possible.
1. Inner Thigh Lift (Medial Thighplasty)
This is the most common technique, focusing on the inner aspect of the thighs.
Incision: The incision is strategically placed high in the groin crease, extending down and wrapping around the inner portion of the leg. For patients with a large amount of excess skin, a vertical incision running down the inner thigh may be necessary to achieve optimal tightening. For patients with minimal excess, a crescentic thigh lift may be used which places the scar in the crease at the top of the inner thigh.
Goal: To tighten the skin and tissue along the medial (inner) and anterior (front) thigh, tightening the skin, and reducing excess tissue.
2. Outer Thigh Lift (Lateral Thighplasty)
This technique addresses loose skin on the outer and front portions of the thigh and is often performed as part of a Circumferential Body Lift.
3. Liposuction Integration
Liposuction may be used in conjunction with excision to remove small pockets of remaining localized fat and further refine the contour of the thighs.
Recovery and Long-Term Results
A Thigh Lift is a significant procedure that delivers dramatic and lasting results, but it requires a dedicated recovery period.
Downtime: Patients typically require 1-2 weeks of restricted activity. Movement should be limited to prevent tension on the incision lines.
Swelling: Expect noticeable swelling and some mild bruising. Compression garments are essential for minimizing swelling and supporting the new contours during the healing process.
Scarring: Scars are permanent, but they are carefully placed to be as inconspicuous as possible—either hidden in the groin crease or along the inner seam of the leg where clothing provides coverage.
